Cattle Brands

First Book of Brands

Duval County 1876-1882 This month we feature brands registered in Duval County under two ranchos. Rancho La Vaca which we feature on page 8 as the agostadero and Rancho Las Auras.

Rancho La Vaca was the agostadero that belonged to José María Garcia Sais. It was located in the present city of Alice, Texas. I couldn't relate the three persons to the grantee although most likely they were grandchildren.

Rancho Las Auras was in the San Francisco grant in present Duval and Jim Wells counties belonging to Juan José Manuel de la Garza Falcon. It was located between Concepcion and Los Olmos in Brooks county. Juan Manuel Balli was a grandson of de la Garza Falcon. I believe that Plutarco Garcia was a great-grandson as was Doloritas Garza.
